„Money Over Matter“ is the debut single from Melboune electro / soul / indie pop duo FRANCO.
The song is a bouncy jam full of grimey guitars and spicey synth lines. There is a moral to the story (choosing the things that matter over the the things tha pay you) but it’s really all about the slinky beats and sing-along style of chorus that makes you wish you’d stayed at the party.
The duo FRANCO is less than a year old and is the combination of two friend, Plutonic Lab (award winning producer for artists like Hilltop Hoods, Drapht, Guilty Simpson) and vocalist Natalie Slade (better known for her features with Steve Spacek and Space Invadas). Each of their songs have been written between hang sessions resulting in a body of work that is full of infectious hooks and fierce beats.
Australian award winning producer Plutonic Lab teams up with vocalist Natalie Slade to form the duos new project FRANCO.
The name FRANCO came about from Natalie’s train journeys to and from Leigh’s studio, travelling past the old, weathered Franco Cozzo furniture store sign, just as Leigh texted to say ‘what should we call ourselves?’.
Musically inspired by just about everything, from the great jazz singers, golden era hip hop and slow jams, to artists like Willy Mitchell, Ennio Morricone, J Dilla, John Carpenter, Brian Wilson, Q-Tip, and soul singers like Otis redding, Marvin Gaye, and Curtis Mayfield.
The duo have been steadily writing and recording their debut EP over the last 6 months and are just now starting to share what they’ve been working on.
With a live show consisting of electronics, live drums and vocals, the duo blend strands of R&B, electronic and indie into meaningful and beautifully crafted songs.
Plutonic Lab has provided the backdrop for countless artists over a mammoth career spanning over two decades, collaborating with artists locally and internationally including Black Milk, Drapht, Hilltop Hoods, G-Love (US), Guilty Simpson (US) and Wiley (UK).
Plutonic Lab’s 2016 LP “Deep Above The Noise” attained feature album status on Double J and Won “Best Hip-Hop Album’ at the AGE Music Victoria Awards 2016.
Notably he produced two lead singles for Speech Debelle’s UK Mercury Prize winning LP in 2009 , and was nominated for ‘Best Urban Release’ at the 2008 ARIA Awards as half of the hip-hop duo Muph & Plutonic, who also placed 2 songs in the Triple J’s “Hottest 100.”
Pluto has toured across extensively across Australia, internationally and as tour drummer for Hilltop Hoods in the U.S, Canada, UK & Europe.
Originally hailing from Sydney, Australia, Natalie Slade is a singer/ songwriter who sings both freestyle and original music which is forward looking and heavily rooted in soul.
